Pet Rock Project

The fun all started when my daughter Hailey and I went on a white water rafting trip to the Delaware River. When we stopped on the side of the river for lunch, she started collecting all kinds of rocks. That’s when it dawned on me… wouldn’t it be cute to turn these rocks into “pets”? Always up for a craft, Hailey and I returned home and started this simple project that totally rocks!

Supplies Needed:
1.) *Rocks, different shapes and sizes
2.) Googly eyes
3.) Glitter glue pens (variety of colors)
4.) Strong bonding gel glue with fine point

*Wash rocks thoroughly, and let dry completely before decorating

Once you have all of your supplies, let the decorating begin! Use glue for adhering those googly eyes and glitter for making your little masterpieces come to life.

Every pet needs a place to call its own! If you would like to make a “home” for your pet rock, I recommend using either a shoebox, small plastic storage container, or butterfly cage (my personal preference).

“Accessorizing” your pet rock’s home is fun and easy using Play-Doh. You can make couches, beds, food, and a water bowl. Note that your Play-Doh creations will harden in time, so make sure they are to your liking. Use colorful shredded tissue paper to create a shaggy rug or grass.

We hope you have as much fun as we did making your pet rocks! Maybe the next time you take a nature walk, go to the beach, or travel somewhere special, be on the lookout for rocks. We have our Delaware River pet rock collection displayed in our living room, and each time we walk by, we always remember the fun-filled day we had!
